Tribal Teacher Workshops are six web-based teacher training courses aimed at improving the quality of classroom teaching with a focus on Native American / Native Alaskan culture. The workshops feature different curriculums including math, science, astronomy, and reading, the courses provided learning methods utilized by Native American and Native Alaskan teachers.
Through my work with Informatics with funding by the US Department of Education, I traveled to different Indian reservations from the Navajo in New Mexico, to the Chippewa in Minnesota, to the Tlingit tribe in Juneau, Alaska. Working with the Native teachers and reservation schools I observed their classroom techniques and studied their culture for design inspiration.
Working with subject matter experts and tribal consultants at the National Museum of the American Indian I helped develop a culturally appropriate design presentation and framework to determine the best practices for classroom teaching.
